Cleaning a Graphite Fingerboard

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a older bass on the way that has a Modulus neck and the fretless fingerboard is polished to a mirror-like shine. Something like how Pedulla does their fretless boards.

Is their a good cleaning compound that is recommended for the occasional cleaning or just a polish cloth wipe down?

You don't need any special cleaners for graphite. The stuff is as waterproof as anything you're likely to come up against, so a damp cloth once in a while should do it, with maybe a touch of dish soap if it's greasy. Sort of like cleaning a counter top. That's all I used on the Moses graphite neck I had on my Stingray.

I've used Windex with great success (to shine things up), small drops of ammonia to clean persistent fingerboard "stickiness", and lemon oil on the fingerboard (if it is wood or phenolic.

Zon recommends using WD-40. I have, and it worked great.
