Cleaning off old stickers..

Sign in to disble this ad
Well Im tired of my basses current look, and I'v decided its time for the childish stickers to go!

Problem is, I cant really get them 100% off.. one sticker I took off years ago still has residue.. Iv gone at it with a rough sponge and hot soapy water.. used lots of elbow grease but the damn stuff is still there (Its mostly gone, but still looks and feels a bit rough). I didnt want to keep rubbing in case i messed up the finish..

So- is there a safe way to take off stickers without damaging the finish?

There are at least 2 products that I've used that are intended just for your problem. Goof Off and Goo Be Gone. The usual places have it.

naptha works and won't hurt the finish.

A little heat from a heat gun can help to loosen the adhesive, then clean off the left over residue with naptha. I have also used WD 40 to remove sticker goo as well, it works but is messy.

Take a little bit of peanut butter and rub it on the sticker residue - it should take it right off.

WD40

Whatever you try, try it on the finish in a place you can afford to screw up. Any of the products listed might work but what will it do to the finish.

If you use peanut butter, you will have dogs following you all over the house.

Motsenbocker's Lift-Off from ACE hardware stores. Works on stickers, greasy laundry stains, really handy stuff to keep around.

Doesn't that depend on where you apply the peanut butter?

I removed stickers from a bass before selling it, and I used regular car wax to clean it up just fine. After all, it's paint.

From what I've caught herein, you really want to make sure what finish you are applying a solvent to before you consider a particular solvent.

Or recommend same
