Cleaning tuning pegs

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an old Yammy bought in the mid 80's and it has the heart shaped tuning pegs on it. They are pretty gross right now, with virtually no reflective qualities from the years of me not paying attention to them.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to use that will cut through all that gunk on the pegs, without hurting the finish, burried under the gunk?
Thanks,
Fishheadjoe

What kind of finish?

Gold plated? Nickel? Chrome? Black?

Naphtha cleans all. I've used it on 35 year old tuners with no problems. Made 'em shiny as new.
