cleaning up a bass.

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a squier p bass that is gettin ready to turn 10 years old. Over those 10 years its acquired many stickers all over it, and something written on the pick guard in permanent marker.

I want to clean it up, get it looking nice.I'm taking the stickers off whats the best way to get the goo off without harming the paint?

Whats the best way the get the marker off the pick guard without dimming it?

And on the tuners, there kinda foggy. what should I use to get them looking good and clean again?

thanks,

goo-gone to remove residue. Mequires "final inspection" detail spray to get some shine. Maybe you want to try a new/different looking pickguard instead? Micro-fiber towels are your friend.

Hairspray will take the permanent marker off.... spray it, let it work for a few seconds, and wipe off, then clean up with a damp rag. Try using some really sticky tape and dab at the adhesive from the stickers. And also rub the adhesive off with your fingers, damp rag.

you can also remove permanent marker by scribbling over the top of it with whiteboard marker and then whiping it off.

Acetone and/or mineral spirits will lift the glue and not harm the plastic or paint. Wax it afterward.

Hey....no more stickers!!

All of the above. I purchased a used Guild Pilot from GC that had so much crud on it that it took three hours and a half bottle of lemon oil to clean the necotine off of the wood. I buffed it with butcher block wax.

goo gone is mild, it's why I like it. Orange based vs. being a harsh chemical.

Like I said about the final inspection spray, it makes a nice shine... and it doesn't build up. Use wax too but only if the finish is still in good shape or it could make things look worse.

I've had to do the sticker removal thing several times before and IMHO nothing works better than a damp rag and elbow grease.

Also, don't forget to post before and after pics when you're done with all your cleaning.

Not if you use it rather quickly.

And I think it's perfectly safe for poly finishes. Nitro and acrylics are where acetone hurts.
