Well i've decided to defret this bass and am on the fence about epoxy coating the fingerboard. What does anyone paying attention to this thread think?

I've done a few de-frets and never bothered with epoxy - or anything more than oil & wax.
I prefer the sound of wood to the sound of plastic.

Natural.

Regular maintenance should be performed with oil of choice (not to be debated in this thread!) just like a fingerboard of the fretted, non-Rickenbacker variety.

The epoxy coating creates a VERY drastic change in the sound of the bass. If you are familiar with that sound and dig it, then go for it. If you really like the bass right now, there is room for pause.

I agree with Joshua. The natural sound is preferable to my ears.

BTW, Excellent work with the defret.
