Could I use Elmers Glue-All Max to glue in the inserts? It's a polyurethane based glue.

I never had to glue the white plastic into the grooves - and the resin just bound them in securely.

Sorry to be late in respinse but I had another heart 'incident' and was in ER and CICU for a few days.

Doc says I've gotta get off the internet a few days and I just snuck into here to take a look-see for a bit.

No excuses!! (okay, that's a pretty good one)

Sorry to hear about your heart incident! Take it easy.

Thanks for the info! How did you apply the resin to your fingerboard?

Would this work?

I'd radius sand the finish off, apply the surfboard resin, and then resand, right?

Sanding resin is pretty nice and goes on very thin IIRC.

But if you want it to cover a little thicker, then this isn't the right product, but it has the ability to seek bonds to old f'glass resin which you may need or want.

Sanding resin shouldn't usually have any wax in it either and that may cause it to take a while to go off - either that or they'll put an accelerator into the catalyst to make it batch a little hotter.

If air can get to the resin as it's trying to set a gas boundary, it'll slow the reaction a bit. That's why wax is used to keep the oxygen off/away the resin as it fires off.
