Complicated action question: P to Jazz (long)

Before I ask my questions - I've setting up my own basses for for about 12 years now (guitars sometimes too). I would consider myself very good at it - maybe not a pro, but never had a problem getting any of my basses to play with nice low action, and perfect intonation. Just wanted to let you guys know that I have some experience before I ask questions.

I've recently gone from a P to Jazz, and I'm finding it tough to play in between the bridge PUP to neck with out buzzing. I compared the Jazz to my P, and the action is almost identical (measured). There is slightly more neck relief on the jazz, but like I said - the action is nearly identical to my P. The necks are both good and straight.

Both basses have indentical strings - DR HiBeam Flats. I finger, and a pick.

So am I missing something, or is this just a "you been playing P's for more than 10 years, you need to get used to the Jazz for a while" situation? It just seems odd to me, because I have an acoustic with much higher action, and it never seems to give any issues.

thx
