Corvette STD Hum/ Scratchy Jack

Sign in to disble this ad
So today I set out to do a good cleaning and tweaking of my wick, got it all clean, plolished... even threw on a new set of Labella flats and it sounds amazing.

Anywho, I plugged it in and I got this slight hum that was never present before, and when ever I moved it would crackle. I'm quite certain that it's the jack producing the crackling... but would that also be the reason for the sudden humming?

Is it possable that the jack isn't sitting right while plugged in so contact isn't full and is causing the hum?

That's just my gathering thus far, so I turn it over to you guys now in hopes of further enlightenment.

Any help is much appreciated.

Also how much would it cost for a new jack? It's an enclosed jack modual, not like many of the others basses I've owned in the past being all open.

Thanks

Peace
-Benny

I haven't had much luck with trying to clean or repair an enclosed jack. They are inexpensive so I suggest that you just replce it.

Yes the jack can cause your problem if the grounded conductor is intermittent.

The last one that I bought was less than ten bucks at a music store.
