Crack below the bullet truss rod nut - problem if tightened further?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I was checking the '76 J bass for sale which has a crack on the first fret position.
The action is not optimal - it is playable, but I would like to have it about 1 mm lower.
I tried to turn the truss rod nut to straighten the neck, but it seems like after about half turn the nut is maxed out.

My question - if I add washers below the nut to allow turning it further, would I risk worsening the crack?

This bass is here locally for sale and I am considering buying it. Would you advise me against buying it?

Thank you.
