Crack between fretboard and neck

Sign in to disble this ad
So, it looks like the stain that was on the neck and fretboard is cracking along where the neck and fretboard meet. I can see a view little lines, and then one major one running down from about fret 2 to 4.5. It does not look like the fretboard is pulling away from the neck, and there does not seem to be any gap between the two.

Any tidbits of advice on this one? I really love this bass, thought I was taking great care of it, and really would rather not have to buy a new number just yet.

Thanks!!!

Is this a Rickenbacker 4001. The old Rickenbacker 60s and 70s 4001 basses with the old truss rods can do this. The problem is the rods work different. Most basses including the modern 4003 bass the truss rods actually move the neck. The old 4001 basses the rods hold the neck. So to adjust the neck you loosen the rods and then move the neck and then tighten the rods again to hold it in place. Overtightening of the tods can cause the fretboard and neck to seperate from each other. The good news is it can be glued back together. Also the old 4001 basses that I owned were quite stable. I found that once the neck was properly adjusted it would stay in place for decades.

And if it a different brand of bass it can be fixed and or replaced.
