Is the bass new?
I'd go get it checked out at a shop.

| | | | Wow.. that's not really a place I'd want to have a crack in. But then again, *any* cracks on my basses would suck.
My question is: did the seller inform you of this defect? Did you ask? Or do you suspect it was damaged during shipping?

There may have been some stresses against the neck while it was in shipping causing the crack to happen at the body neck joint.
I would take the neck off to see how bad the crack is. Maybe take it to a repair shop if you don't feel comfortable doing that yourself. |

I know, I know; I should've known better and checked the neck joint but I guess I missed it. I noticed the defect last night and there's no possible way it happened during the trip home, it was sitting in its fender hardshell case.
I'm mos def taking an action, asking for a price reduction... I dunno yet. The bass sounds amazing, one of the best j basses I've played, it has an audere preamp(reeaaally good upgrade).
Once again, comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

Cost me like 50 dollars canadian to get it fixed (I needed new strings so he put them on too and total was 100 dollars) He just took the neck off and filled it in with some sort of reinforcement stuff. Crack was still in the finish on the outside, but it was strong and sturdy.

It's hard to tell if the crack is just superficial or not. Have a look. |

| | | | If it actually a crack in the wood, and it looks like it is, the best, most pemanent fix would be to fix it with a wood plug. But this could be expensive unless you know how to do it yourself. You might be able to get it to hold well enough by working some ca (superglue) into the crack and letting it harden. But, before you put the neck back on, find out what is causing it to crack or it'll just happen again. Check the neck pocket fit, or maybe the neck screws have been tightened too much.

The guy who sold it to me sent me a $100 refund for not mentioning the crack in the item's description on ebay. So far, the bass plays great; let's hope it stays that way. Thanks to all of you for your input, I'll let you know whats the deal with that little crack. |
