Crackling amp

I get weird crackling noises on my 15W crate amp (hey, that's all I need for now ) when I play my dean edge 5 fretless. It has active electronics. I change cords, same deal. I plug in my passive SX bass and it's all good. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Bad wiring? Bad cables (I tried two, one of which I hadn't used almost at all)? Too close to the amp? (I sit like a foot away from it, and it's elevated to be on my level) Bad pickups?

I've got a used Crate BX25DLX I just picked up for practice around the house.

Thing sounds like a snowstorm without anything plugged into it.

Maybe it's a Crate thing.

It only does it on my new bass, not my old one, though.

At one point it sounded distorted and let off a high pitched squeel. Kind of sounded like a pinch harmonic, except that I just played normally.

Usually it will crack if I stand up or sit down. I don't know if it's because it's moving closer to the amp or because something is loose inside.

Is the input jack loose or worn? Just a stab in the dark.

There's something wrong with the bass. Check the obvious first, like the jack and battery connections and of course, the battery. If you can't find anything yourself it's time to have a pro look at it.

Question: Does your 'new' bass have passive/active pull-up or toggle? Have you tried that route by bypassing the battery/active electronics.. and I know this was mentioned: did you pull apart the input jack and LOOK to make sure that you have nothing frayed or 'cold' there? Better check everything just to be sure

Also previously said.. next step.. find a gud guitar tech or luthier shop...(w/continuity meter)

One last experiment.. can you reproduce this noise running that same bass thru a differant
bass rig or combo amp?
