| Crazy Truss Rod Idea?

Ok , I am considering routering out the back(making a channel)
in a maple board OLP 5 string neck to install a 2 way
stewmac truss rod and skunk stripe. I know the proper
way is to heat and pull the fretboard but it seems to
me it could work out neater this way. Is there an
issue with removing the old single action rod I am
not considering?
The current situation is the truss just humps up the 12th fret and above
when you tighten it - no amount of tightening reduces the relief up
near the top of the neck (3rd to 12th fret)
