Question Curious - why Fender Lic necks have extra frets?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone know why the Fender Lic replacement necks have the extra fret(s)? Have searched and haven't found the answer.
Seems it makes it harder for some to remove pickguard and some strat players like it - but have yet to find why they are typically made that way.

Some companies make them several different ways...I know Warmoth makes them with 20, 21 or 24 frets. Personally, I like 21 frets, so I can have 3 full octaves. I may play that note only once a gig, but I'd like to have it and not need it, kind of like when I use my 5 string on a song, even though I'm not playing any notes on the low B.

Yeah, different companies have different options. I have seen a couple that have 20 frets: Warmoth, Allparts, and Mighty Mite as far as I know.

And a Fender licensed neck only means they paid Fender to use the headstock shape. That's it... It's like getting your favourite team's logo on a blanket.

I always thought it was so someone couldn't put a Fender decal on one and pass it off as a genuine original equipment neck. That said, I don't really find it disingenous to put a Fender decal on licensed replacement necks, because they are licensed and upon further inspection obvious as such.

Well gonna give a Warmoth 21 a try instead of picking a genuine off da bay. Thanks for the feedback-

I like Warmoth necks. And now they have the graphite reinforced version (instead of steel), if weight is an issue.
