Custom body not even CLOSE to fitting Fender neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Just received a new body from Warmoth for my Geddy Lee. Unfortunately, the pocket would seem at least an 1/8th inch off from being able to seat my neck. Anyone here have a similiar situation for Warmoth bodies? Is this typical? I'm not going to touch it until I talk w/ them today, but wanted to find out (while I wait for them to open up) if this is normal...

The width of a neck pocket for a Fender bass should be 2-1/2". Check to see if the Geddy Lee neck and neck pocket might be undersized? If the neck pocket of your Warmoth body measures 2-1/2" wide, I don't thing Warmoth will do anything for you...

Still tracking down the details...

Talked to them just a bit ago, their service department was very helpful.

They set the tolerance on the CNC routes just a smidgin small in order to allow compensation for the difference in bass necks (they'd rather the pocket be too small than too big). That and the finish might actually add to the issue. I'm going to go in and remeasure to get the math down and see how much it is actually too small...sounds as though I'll be able to take a sanding block and sandpaper and rectify the problem.

For some reason, I thought your Warmoth neck pocket was too big. Anyway, with a little sanding in the pocket, you should be able to make your GL neck fit. Be sure to protect the finish...

Take the neck and body to a guitar tech and get them to fit it perfectly!
