Custom Pickguard Image?

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to get a custom pickguard done up for my jazz bass that features an image a friend of mine has drawn. It's quite simple, I want it to be white ink on a black pickguard.

What's the best way for me to do this? Are there companies that make custom pickguards? Can I just have her paint straight onto an existing pickguard, or somehow protect the paint from scratching?

what about taking your friend's drawing to a sign shop, and see if they can make a vinyl cutout of the design that you can apply to your pickguard?

You can get a screen printing machine. They run about $150 to $200 for a small home model, and you can ten use it for other various random projects as well.

Get a BWB pick guard and carve through the top layer of black to expose the white layer beneath.

I do things like this by hand in furniture making, but a trophy shop or someone with a CNC router could do the job for you.

You could also get a clear pickguard and put the image underneath it.

Another option is to find a competent airbrush artist to paint it on there for you. That's what I do. To protect it from scratches, a clear coat is sprayed over the design, kind of like this:

I'd say clear 'guard with the picture on the backside. On the top of the pickguard will just get worn out.
