Cyanoacrylate fill

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two questions about doing a cyanoacrylate fill on a small ding in a clear coat:

1. Do you use regular old super glue? The thin kind or the "gel" kind?

2. Once the ding is filled and the repair is above the surface of the rest of the finish, what's the best way to polish it down to flush and blend it in?

Thanks luthiers!

Hi.

I ain't no luthier, but I'll answer Your question anyway .

#1 I use regular CA. I do test its compatibility in a hidden location first though.
#2 I usually scrape it down and then wet sand with 1000 or 2000 grit.

Regards
Sam

Figure out what kind of finish you have first.

Thanks, that was super helpful. It's a poly finish, so I should be fine using this technique.
