D/G string volume

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've had this MIM P-bass for about 9 years. Since the start the D/G strings have been inaudible in a live setting with Stock pickups, SD SPB-2, and SPB-3 Quarter Pounders. Unplugged, they seem to resonate enough (E/A sure as heck do) if a little thin. Anyone else ever experience this? Would replacing the bridge alleviate this?? I can't imagine the entire neck is a dead spot. Thanks.

Funny enough im going through this with my new Lakland Duck Dunn. I also noticed it (to a less extent) with my previous Lakland DJ5.
I had a Duck Dunn before 9in fact two), and a Fender P5 and neither of these suffered from this problem.
Im going to change the pup this week but i dont hold out much hope.

I do find that having the D/G part of the pup higher has helped a bit, also a bit of EQ juggling as i find while the strings are loud enough acoustically, they seem to lack punch and depth and i think this might be more a cause than just volume.
I know my G is louder than my E and A as its the string i can get to clip the amp but it seems to get lost one the band/music starts playing.

I find this happens through my rig as well as my home recording set up.

There is a bit of talk about this over the years, most seem to think its a set up/string issue.

There is another, very short thread here but no real answers.

my D and G string sounding too weak...
