D string buzz 15th fret after setup

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought new MIM fender jazz last week. I adjusted truss rod to remove relief and adjusted bridge, following these instructions: http://www.garywillis.com/pages/bass...al/relief.html. There's ONE fret that buzzes, on D string at 15th fret. No buzz anywhere else on bass. I'd like to avoid paying for pro setup unless necessary. I like the bass and would prefer not to return it if there's a (preferably DIY) solution. What could the problem be?

It needs a fret leveling- this is common with a new bass, even expensive ones. DIY? No offense, but if you have to ask, the answer is no.

Thanks for the advice. For me DIY would be limited to bridge or truss adjustments. These hands will not be applying any files to the bass

It's not really that hard to do, but you need the tools, and you have to kind of know what you're doing. I taught myself because I do a lot of project basses and couldn't keep paying somebody else.

Problem resolved

I took the bass to Mike Lull's Guitar Works and they said the bass has loose frets and could be repaired under warranty. I took it back to Seattle Guitar Center and they exchanged it for one that plays fine. Good customer service. Thanks for the advice.
