D String Buzzing Right at Nut on New Bass

I have a nearly new Stingray 5 I biught used with the new compensated nut. When I play the D string open, the string buzzes right at the nut. This happens only when I dig in a little. But not a lot.

I have tried restringing, adjusting the break angle, jiggling the string a little in the slot, etc. If I put a piece of rolled up paper under the string past the nut, it helps, but I'd like to not to have to do this.

Any advice? The bass is nearly new.

I have a little piece of paper in there now, and it works. Is this my solution?

Who out there has a little piece of paper keeping a string from buzzing?

Fretbuzz sucks but its on all of my basses so I just try to ignore it. I guess if it really bothers you, take it to a good luthier and try a new nut.

Not fret buzz. It is buzzing right at the nut.

I think that it is the nut too wide (or maybe too narrow?). How would I go about building up the nut slot?
