Damaged neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, I ran across a really nice used G & L at Guitar Center the other day. It was a USA version L2000, and the neck was bad. Actually, it was for sale for $400. It hadn't been cleaned up, but for 400 I was thinking about putting the work into it. As far as the neck goes, they told me the truss rod had been turned to the point to where it couldn't be turned anymore, and I'm not sure if it can be loosened. They said a luthier might be able to repair it, however, I'm thinking it might cost a pretty penny.

I'd been looking for a nice 4 banger recently, and with this, I was thinking it might be a steal....

Advice anyone?

It might be a good deal if...

If the truss rod nut can be loosened okay, you might be able to get away with taking off the nut and putting a spacer behind it and then putting it back on. This backs the nut out to where it can grab more threads again and then be tightened enough to put the proper amount of relief in the neck.

This spacer method has been discussed here before.

However, if the truss rod is seized and cannot be loosened, you might be looking at a more expensive repair. In that case, the easiest and probably least expensive thing to do would be to buy a used neck for it.
