Anyone know what diection to turn the truss rod on the neck to reduce the amount of relief? The longhorn is a 90's reissue.

Remember this saying Righty tighty (increase), lefty loosey (reduce)

Rule of thumb, "righty tighty, lefty loosy"

This is what I thought but when I turn it counterclockwise it is loose but I still have too much relief. I thought the Danelectro may be the opposite of normal.

Hmmmm

What happens when you turn it to the left?

Looking at the heal of the guitar I am turning it counterclockwise (to the left) and the rod offers no resistance. When I turn it clockwise (to the right) it feels like I am encountering resistance.

To decrease relief, you need to turn it to the right, or clockwise. You want to tighten the nut to counteract string tension. You've been doing the opposite.

Steve is exactly right. The Danelectro is no different than most of the other basses as far as truss rod adjustments.
