Danelectro neck screws?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was tightening the neck screws on my Danelectro '63 long scale bass and one of them snapped just inside the body. I was able to remove the broken off part of the screw, but I haven't been able to find any replacements. I contacted Danelectro customer service, and they said neck screws are not on their list of available spare parts. I've asked some luthiers in my area if they have any lying around - no luck so far. I've done a lot of searching online also - zip.
Does anybody know where I might be able to find these? (FYI Fender neck bolts won't work because they are slightly larger and not flat on the bottom of the head).
Thanks!

My first stop is usually ACE hardware. Even if they don't have the screw chromed, they sometimes have it in stainless, which looks very close.

Went to my local Ace, which is fairly large, and they didn't have anything close, unfortunately.

Post a pic of the screw or, better yet, one of the intact screws. Those of us with junk drawers will do what we can.

The screw is 1 3/4" long, and the head is 3/8" in diameter - unusually wide, but it has to hold the mass of the neck without the aid of a neckplate. The oversize head is the thing that makes it a non-standard hardware item.
Thanks!

Thanks for the pics. It is, indeed, a non-standard item. I have nothing like that in my pile of castoffs. However...

You may want to consider snagging some stainless steel wood screws and matching washers. Wouldn't be 100% stock but would serve the purpose. Do all 4 and nobody will notice the difference. If you want to be tricky and the bass body construction allows, you could try these:

Sorry I can't be of any help but I'm sure others are looking & brainstorming too.

They don't have neck bolt screws in stock but did you try contacting danguitars.com?

I thought about ferrules as an alternative if I can't locate screws - thanks, Riis.
I haven't tried Danguitars, that's a good suggestion also.

A lot depends as to whether the Dan laminate / composite construction will accommodate the installation of countersunk ferrules without splintering, etc.

I wouldn't want to use anything that had to be countersunk.

Ooops...the ferrules require a 5/8" counterbore.
