| darkened lacquer?

hey -
i dented the very top of my headstock today, and tried to steam it out, after reading some walkthroughs on how to do it...stupid, i know - it worked...however, either the heat or the polish i used after darkened a very small portion of the lacquer. is this reversible? if it's not i'm going to get that spot refinished, it's about 1cm long at most.
