De-painting a T-bird pickguard

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the process of restoring a '96 T-bird, which includes a poorly painted pickguard - it's the original guard with some massively ugly matte black paint all over it.

I don't know what type of ugly paint was used, and I need it off, like, soon. But I wanted to throw this out here before I do some irreversible damage to it. Will ordinary paint thinner work on it? It's a thin 3-ply pickguard, so I don't want to burn any holes in it or anything. What works best?

Paint thinner will most likely ruin it so I wouldn't do that. Something I used to use on plastics is Easy-Off oven cleaner. BUT I would try it on a small spot on the back first just to see if it has a reaction to the plastic.
