dead e string

hay, my e string is dead. changed strings and still not good as the other strings. everything else looks fine, e.g bridge and nut. any ideas?

by dead i mean, not sounding as good as the other srtings. this happened before i changed strings and it still there after a new set was put on. what do you mean by downward pressure at the breakpoint?
