Dead Fret Help

My 5-string MIK Warwick Corvette has a dead fret - more accurately it has a dead note...

It's most obvious on the D on the 12th fret of the D string, but also on the 5th fret of the A string and the open D string - clearly my neck has resonance problems at this freqency!

I've heard about people adding physical mass to their headstock to help alleviate this, or slightly adjusting the truss rod to adjust the resonance of the neck, but not sure if there's a tried and true way of fixing this...

Could it be a problem with strings or frets? Or just the nature of my bass?
