Deep scratch

Sign in to disble this ad
So this isn't about bass, kinda. My lamp just fell on my 7 string guitar (leaning on bass end ) and the light broke and scratched it really badly. It's a black high gloss finish and I really wanna know how to get this scratch out. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

I've filled scratches and repainted with fingernail polish, black fingernail polish will polish up to a nice shine and can be a good looking repair. Depending on how deep the scratch is you may need to fill with something else first, and hopefully the nail polish is compatible with your paint. I've sanded with 1500 to smooth, then polish with a car paint type polish.

There's this turtlewax stuff I've used, and its the deep scratch polishing compound for cars. Its like sand mixed with paste and with the right amount of elbow grease, will rub out almost perfect any clear coat scratch.

Without a pic, I would not venture a suggestion. You REALLY can make something go from bad to WORSE!
Realistically, it's often better to simply live with it.

Now if it's actually a light scratch (from glass) you could buff it out with descending buffing compound and some swirl-killer. You need a decent buffing unit and a bright work place but often the clear-coat can be cleaned up enough so most people would never notice it without it being pointed out. If you're going to DIY, do a little research and practice - and get QUALITY TOOLS.
