I just received a defretted 6 string Curbow, and I was wonder what kind of action a fretless bass should have, since this is my first fretless?

That's less relevant in the case of a fretless. Assuming you want the modern fascination with a fretless buzz sound you want a fairly low action and low angle of the string to the fingerboard. Before the onomatopoeia "mwah' became common, most people refer to that unique sound as fretless buzz, hence buzz bass by Pedulla. This is of course dependent on whether you desire to have this sound effect, if you don't want it - a higher action will kill this tendency for the buzz sound, or 'mwah'. DB players usually don't really want this sound in DB pizzicato playing, too low an action will give you this buzz, and a DB will start to sound like contemporary fretless EBs.

Thanks a lot! I just lowered my action a bit, and I'm already noticing a difference. I'm planing on applying epoxy to the fretboard to get that distinctive tone and glassy look, so I may end up raising the action again to compensate for that.

I prefer low action on all my basses, fretless or otherwise...

But when you the big brown truck delivers any bass, first thing to do is break out the allen wrenches and do a setup (or take it to someone you trust).
