defretting ibanez sr506 advice

Sign in to disble this ad
hi, ive been thinking of defretting this bass since i got a new 6 string and this barely gets played.

i have very little experience other than defretting a piece of crap years ago, went alright but not perfect. few burn marks on the fredboard from the soldering iron i used to heat the frets so id be much more careful if i do this (as i like this bass) or would use something else.

also ive little experience with fretless basses, would the rosewood fretboard be hard enough and what epoxy/varnish etc would i need/be best. also the main concern, would this sound good? anyone any experience with a fretless one of these, i remember seeing a pic of one on here years ago but cant find it now.

would the abalone fret markers look strange after sanding?
and what would be best to fill the gaps where the frets used to be. small bits of veneer of some filler?

i searched the forums but alot of links to helpful websites were dead and i wanted some answers people hadnt tlaked about so hope this isnt a pointless thread.
any help is appreciated anyway im not sure if ill go ahead with this or not anywway.
