Question Defretting an OLP MM2

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, just wondering if anyone has had any success defretting an MM2. Ive heard that defretting on a Maple neck is not a good idea, but this bass is just sitting around gathering dust anyway, so I figured I should do something with it. So has anyone had any success? And did you have to take any extra steps? Thanks!

Hey,I know this is over a month old but I thought I`d share my info with you. I wanted my Fender P bass Special with a maple neck defretted and brought it to a luthier. He said he`d rather not do work on it because maple was softer and prone to show mistakes. So I did the work on another bass.

i bought a used OLP MM2 off of some guy who defretted the neck.... yeah it didnt work out too well, i dunno if he filed the nut or something but its waaay too close to the board to play, ill get to fixing that later... luckily he threw a replacement neck in lol
i suppose im saying go for it if you know what youre doing. As far as i can tell tho... theres no room for error on these necks.
