defretting an ONYX bass

Sign in to disble this ad
hi, my first post, let me firstly say how incredibly helpfull talkbass has been to me in my bassy adventures over time. great site, and great hints and help everywhere.

NOW... moving on...

I have an onyx bass. dont know where its from or who made it or what pickups are in it or anything about it. the internet has only been able to give me limited information on it. anyway, i havent played it for years becoz my bass collection got extended to a fender jazz and precision and a ibanez gsr active.

but concerning the onyx, i recently defretted it. ripped them right out of there. then i proceeded to put some maple wood filler in the fret holes. and sanded it down ever so slightly just to get it all smooth. i put some stain over the top of it today becoz the maple didnt quite come out like i wanted it.

but my question is... does anyone have any information on onyx basses and how to set them up? the intonation was out so i fixed that but now the saddles are pulled back way far and it looks kinda painfull to the bass. is this right? howcan i get the action even lower coz its still a bit high for a fretless?

any help would be appreciated

thanks
Soma

i have pulled apart mr gearheads site and set the bass up as well as i could with the information. great site i must say, it helped me witht he intonation and truss rod adjustments. but its still a bit high, i mean, i feel that a fretless whould be almost on hte board?

but yeh anywya, i have to pull the strings off again becoz i put a wood stain over the neck the other day and the maple filler i used sunk down so i have to fill it up a little bit again. its teh first time ive done a fretless conversion so im kinda learning as im going along but it shou8ld be fine i think
