Question Deployed Basses

Sign in to disble this ad
BIG QUESTIONNNNN!

Im about to deploy and I have to leave my basses behind. When I store them should I unstring it to remove tension from the neck and either but them in a hardcase or leave them on a stand? I'm really nervous about leaving them for 4 months. I would hate to come back and have my investments ruined.

Tune them, place them in a good hard case. Don't take the strings off they are an integral part of the bass's construction. Put them in a cool, dry(not arid) secure location. Then cut the cord and walk away. They will be fine! Are they insured if not get some. Just did six months away in the desert and I came back and my basses were just fine. Lonely but fine.

+1

The string tension will help the neck keep it's relief

The reason for this is that the tension rod inside the neck balances out the pull of the strings. If you took the strings off, you would be putting tension ON the neck by removing one side of this balance.

I do have insurance on them. I was even thinking of buying a ****** 5 string to take with so I can keep my chops up.

Being in the Navy I'm lucky that I can take my bass with me on deployment most of the time. Bands have been known to form on them thar big ships. I'm leaving soon for a 6 monther.
Good luck and stay safe out there.
