In-depth thoughts on my nuts

Sign in to disble this ad
Got to thinking today. Some of my guitars have assorted nut material. Bone, plastic and brass for example.
I noticed the harder the material, generally = more twang or growl.
So I started thinking my soft nuts are mellow! (?)
Hm-mm, so I'm thinking soft, mushy nuts would go good on a flat board (fretless)????? Maybe??
Also considered that it seems your nuts only matter when they're open. If you fret a note, then it's the fret, not the nut that helps / hinders tone (that explains a few bass' I've owned I guess)
Then I was thinking about the fret profile. Seems about all that I can remember with sharply peaked frets were distinct, sharp sounding. The lower and wider made for smooth tones and light playing on the board.
Then I figured out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
SEE WHAT THIS PLACE DOES TO ME?

I've never wanted to make a "nut" joke more than I do right now.

I'd have to examine your nuts in detail. I couldn't offer an opinion until I'd really got a feel of them, if you know what I mean. If I did that, we might discover that bone you're talking about....

Thinks: I'd better stop this right now before they ban me.

Thank You

I am reading this first thing in the morning and I really got a laugh from it.

Thanks.

I am sure, once everyone stops laughing, that you will get a serious answer.
