Detuning help

Sign in to disble this ad
i play on a fender p bass 4 string , not sure what year, that plays great in standard, but when i want to detune to C, where my band plays, the strings become really slack and the sound goes downhill (to put it politely).

Any advice on how to stop this happening or improve the sound and playability of it when detuned ?

You're going to have to use the top 4 strings from a 5 string set,and get the nut cut to accomodate the bigger strings. You'll also have to tweak the neck. Not that big of a deal. Or,you could just get a 5 string and be done with it,and leave the P-bass as it is.
