Did I get a fake gotoh???

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased a gotoh 201 bridge off ebay, and only realise recently that it doesnt have a logo....so i msged the seller, and he claim that they are OEM products and they r genuine. The bridge feels firm and well made, but Im jus wonderin if theres any chance it could be fake??? heres the link to the product

Did I get a fake gotoh

Most likely, you did. Look at this 201........

Yes, absolutely you did. That is a cheap copy. They work ok - I've got one on a Squier and it is perfectly functional - but if you paid $42 and thought you were getting a 201, you were scammed. The one you got sells for between $12 and $18 at the various online vendors (Bass Parts Depot, etc.). My advice: demand a refund, and report the scammer to eBay's fraud investigation team. Then, order a real 201 from Warmoth for $32. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

The string-thru holes are not Fender compatible either. Fenders bridge mounting holes are in-line with the string-thru holes.

Its a fake, just demand a refund- its over 2x what you should have paid of for a copy.

I asked the seller about the lack of logo, and here's his explaination.

ear tetsu_sixx,

Hello- the 201 is a series of bridges, not a single bridge. it can be ordered with or without the logo, string thru, toploading, or both.

Dear joshmsr,

Hi, i got my gotoh 201 acouple of days back and I have to say im pretty pleased cause it looks great. However, may I know why doesnt the bridge have a 'gotoh' logo on it? thanks

- tetsu_sixx

Apparently the 201 is a 'series' not a particular model....I searched for a 'fake gotoh' on talkbass and theres also this thread starter who experienced a similar situation as mine, and the seller also told him that is at OEM product.

'Fake' Gotoh Bridge/ WD?

^^

heres the thread, and according to one of the users it might be a real product just without the logo. Can anyone confirm this? The seller has a good record and I wouldnt wanna jump into accusations due to lack of knowledge. thanks

My Schecter Extreme 4 has a bridge that looks remarkably like yours, except for no string-thru drillings (and black)...I was quietly told by Schecter (when the bass was in for warranty repair) that it is a non-marked Gotoh.

It may be a nice bridge, it may even be made in the gotoh factory (I doubt it) but It's not a gotoh 201

Several of my Fernandes basses have Gotoh bridges; they don't have a logo on the top, but there is a "G" symbol on the bottom (covered when the bridge is mounted). These are not 201's, though.

It is a fake. Gotoh like most other dont make products without their logo on them. Seller is running a scam if claims they are real.

If you look at the Gotoh catalog online it only shows one model of 201 bass bridge. There is no mention of a series.

I've got a couple of Gotoh bridges with no logo....but what you have there is not one . Gotoh 201's don't have the string through holes.

I'm guessing that 'series' refers to the different finishes (black, chrome, gold), and there are non-logo'd 201 bridges.

It's a Gotoh 201 purchased from WD music and sold to the OP. WD part number GEB201.
