different volume notes

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys,

I'm new in bass world. Bought this BB414 bass 1 month ago. Along the road I started noticing that some notes on the fret sound really loud compared the rest. Especially the B note on 7th fret/4th string and B on 14th fret/3rd string.
Notes at the sides of both sound also higher than the rest but not as high the the ones mentioned. Then I can feel the same thing on some notes on the very high frets.
Not sure if the explanation is clear enough but hope someone can give me a hint of whats going on.
I dont see anything abnormal with the neck, frets or bridge.
Do you think I can solve this with a good set up or can this be something more serious??

cheers

If you leave this, you run the risk of your bass exploding in a big firey ball, visible from space.

No. Just get a good set-up. Neck, bridge, nut, and pickups. And you're set.

I have a similar problem with my five string, but I'm led to believe it's due to the thickness of the strings, but for example, a fretted E on the B string is much louder than the open E string. The same can be applied elsewhere. You think compression can solve the issue?

Thanks for the comments.

I'm taking the bass to be set up today. Hope that solves the problem. Will let you know the out come.

If it doesnt, then I guess I will have to buy that Fender Jazz that talks to me everytime I go to the guitar store. haha.

Cheers.

It could be the way your amp is EQ'ed, it could be the room, it could be your pick up height, or it could be dead spots on your neck. If it's just the B notes then it's the Eq'ing or room acoustics.

Hi Guys,

So... took the bass to guitar store and got it set up (strings, pups height, etc). It sounded ok at the store, while back at home the problem was back again, although not as bad as before. Guess may be the accoustic at home has something to do . It happens on different rooms. Amp settings doesnt make a difference. Tried different settings after you mentioned this as a possible cause but the difference in volume is still there.

Thanks all for your helpfull comments.

Cheers.
