Direct replacement bridge for a fretless Fender Jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi !

I'm currently updating my old MIM fretless Fender Jazz bass (just replaced the pickups and done the pickup cavity enlargement). I'm looking for a new bridge and wish to have a direct replacement using the same screw holes. The most obvious is a Bad Ass II, but I'm not sure of the result with a fretless (only heard it on fretted basses) and I heard it's impossible to get an extra low action with one (which is what I use on my fretless). What other options do I have that'll improve the sustain of the instrument ? Gotoh ?

Gotoh 201.

You can get a low action with a Badass, but every time I've done it I've had to shim the neck. Some basses come from the factory with a shim.

Are you really sure you need to replace the bridge?

my vote: the fender vintage bridge (gotoh makes one too)

better tone and stability, because the strings can get spread out a little; this (one) puts each string right between each pair of magnets on the pickups where they belong, causing (two) the outer saddles to get pushed in towards the middle, holding everything tightly together.

plus, they're fairly cheap. (hell, it's the same plate, you could just get the saddles themselves.)
