Do Jumbo Frets produce louder Fretbuzz?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a G&L tribute L2000 with fairly beefy jumbo frets. The wire is noticeably thicker and wider than any of my other basses. I have the bass set up with a reasonable amount of relief and action at the 12th fret with a capo on the first fret is right were I like it at 5/64".

On my other basses I get a little buzz at this height, but its acoustic only. I can't really hear it through the amp. On this bass the buzz (and its just on the low E) is really loud and resonant, I can hear it clearly through the amp. Is it the jumbo wire, or do I just need a fret levelling and dressing?

It's probably a high fret or two that needs to be leveled.
