I have an SX J-Bass copy and I want to replace the neck. Would this ( http://cgi.ebay.com/FENDER-2909-JAZZ...1%7C240%3A1318) Mighty Mite neck have a perfect fit on the SX or would I have to modify it in some way (I'm not very handy so hopefully they fit). Thanks! |

Needless to say it was a joke of a neck. Probably the worst neck I ever had.
The heel is not a direct fit to any Fender body that I know of since it's at least 3/16" wider at the 20th fret. Not only was the fit all wrong the frets were completely uneven and the inlays were off center and some were raised. Even though I never used the neck, I junked it for fret dressing and leveling practice. I attempted to turn the truss rod and the damn thing stripped on the first turn.
Is this neck nearly worth what a new SX bass would cost you ? If you answer yes then you are out of your skull.
Avoid Mighty Mite at all costs. Save up and get a Warmoth or another American made neck. | Thanks, I needed a second opinion like that. I have been saving up for a nice finished Warmoth neck but I wasn't sure if I was wasting my money. Now I know, thanks. |

But on an SX, the pocket varies, might fit, might not, Warmoth is no guarantee either.

The consensus seems to be that they are not as good as warmoth, but are as good or better than a MIM fender neck. Reports vary, but some folks report them being great out of the box, and some folks report them needing a fret dressing badly.
One thing I would check, I was planning on putting an SX neck on my jazz. When I got the neck, It was a touch larger than the standard fender neck route. Not much, but I would have had to sand it a bit to fit. Thus, MM would fit in the SX neck route, but it might be a bit loose. You can find a very nice pictorial description of standard fenderneck routes here http://www.warmoth.com/bass/necks/ne...useaction=faq2 If your SX neck pocket matches those measurements, then it will be a fine match for a MM or Warmoth neck.
All this said, if you can sit tight and order a Warmoth neck, that would be the best deicision. I ordered a maple/rosewood p-neck for my Jass (I like wide necks) and I finished the maple myself with hand rubbed poly. It is a very stable neck with great fretwork and a nice thick fingerboard. |

I've removed two SX bass pickguards and both revealed about a 1/8" gap between the end of the neck and the body... I think they install the pickguard first, which overhangs the neck pocket route, and then they install the neck tight to the pickguard. It looks like a tight fit until you remove the p/g. |

I used it on my $400 project jazz which I got rid of for $100. |

Their 'standard thin' felt like a baseball bat and the neck was heavy due to the rods they put in. Did I mention it cost me an arm and a leg too?
Out of curiosity, do SX basses have a Fender standard neck pocket now. I had one of their P clones a few years ago and the pocket was definitely not standard Fender spec. |

| | So what did you end up with?
All parts neck is expensive...if you say you put an SX neck on I'm calling Shenanigans. (did a search...you use Mighty Might a few times on your builds.)...

| | | | The only reason I want to get a Mightly Mite is they are cheaper than Warmoth, so I could get one now. The neck on my SX now is horrible. The frets are uneven, and I have to play with high action and high relief to get a decent sound. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
