| | | | Do you guys like your hipshot d tuners? I'm thinking about putting one on my jazz and have never actually seen or used one and don't want to spend that much without some feedback. So any positives and negatives would be appreciated. Thinking about buying it this weekend.

| | | | Huh. Never thought about that.

I use to have a few off-brand ones that did the same function but the Hipshot brand d tuner is far superior and very very convenient. It's super nifty and makes ya look cool haha!

I don't use it much but, every once in a while, I'm very glad I have it.
If you need that low D (or Eb) a lot, you should probably consider
a 5-stringer. But, for occasional use, the Drop-D tuner is excellent.
Another nice feature is that, if you ever decide to remove it
(e.g. want bass to be original or don't like it), you can take it
off and put your original tuner back on. The installation is
completely reversible. |

Warning: The open D is super awesome and you may grow attached to it. I miss it on basses that have a low B string.
So definitely buy with confidence; they are fantastic and you'll probably never look back. |

There's no down side that I can think of, and the ability to land a low D or Eb anytime is cool.
When I've got a lot to do south of the low D, well, that's what the 5-string is for. I have tuned the drop lower than D, but then it makes you really have to climb the neck to get to the F, F#, G, and G#. A five becomes much more useable at that point.
All the best,
