Do you guys like your hipshot d tuners?

I'm thinking about putting one on my jazz and have never actually seen or used one and don't want to spend that much without some feedback. So any positives and negatives would be appreciated. Thinking about buying it this weekend.

Yeah they're pretty cool. Super convenient. I had one on my jazz but it created a pretty bad dead spot on C(5th fret) on my G string... Must have been the added mass.

I recently added one to my Lakland DJ4 and love it. I use to have a few off-brand ones that did the same function but the Hipshot brand d tuner is far superior and very very convenient. It's super nifty and makes ya look cool haha!

They are indispensable IMO. Vintage instruments aside I wouldn't play a 4 string without one.

Love it, I can play drop D songs without retuning.

I would definitely recommend having one installed. Once you get it set up and use to the tuning it is awesome. Never had any problems at all and have used them for years.

I saw that they have a double-stop model now as well. Does anyone know if the notes must be a whole step apart? I was thinking being able to drop to Eb and D would be extremely useful, but if the dropped notes have to be a whole step apart that wouldn't be possible...

I have Hipshot D-Tuners that are now older than a lot of TB members and are still going strong. Essential tool, love 'em.....

Ive had 2 basses with the D-tuner, they work very well but i found i never really used it. I dont think its worth the cost but it can be a great thing to have, its usually just icing on the cake when buying a Bass...

I have one on my P Bass and think it is great.
I don't use it much but, every once in a while, I'm very glad I have it.

If you need that low D (or Eb) a lot, you should probably consider
a 5-stringer. But, for occasional use, the Drop-D tuner is excellent.

Another nice feature is that, if you ever decide to remove it
(e.g. want bass to be original or don't like it), you can take it
off and put your original tuner back on. The installation is
completely reversible.

Love them. I put them on all my basses, with the exception of my 12 string, and my Hofner 500/1. It's even on my acoustic.

I've had one on my Lakland DJ4 for a few years now, and I wouldn't own a 4 string without one. Every few months you may need to tweak the calibration, but it's really easy and fast. Installation is easy too.

Warning: The open D is super awesome and you may grow attached to it. I miss it on basses that have a low B string.

So definitely buy with confidence; they are fantastic and you'll probably never look back.

Just say yes...

I've got them on two basses, both of my (fretless) fours.

There's no down side that I can think of, and the ability to land a low D or Eb anytime is cool.

When I've got a lot to do south of the low D, well, that's what the 5-string is for. I have tuned the drop lower than D, but then it makes you really have to climb the neck to get to the F, F#, G, and G#. A five becomes much more useable at that point.

All the best,

Shane
