Does this action look ridiculously high?

Sign in to disble this ad
Here are some pics of a MIM P I was considering buying, but they have me worried as it looks like the action is set EXTREMELY high and consequently the neck could be warped. I'm not too sure though, and I may be able to get a pretty good deal on it. What do you guys think??

Thanks for your help!

Looks like maybe the bridge is set kind of high, but I'd never be able to tell from any of those pictures if the neck was warped.

It looks pretty high to me. Could you get your money back if the neck is toast?
Otherwise, keep in mind that in most cases you can adjust that bow out. You might be able to easily whip this one right back into shape even if it is high at the moment.

action is a bit higher than standart, thats true
the first half of the neck looks straight, but thats usually the half without the truss rod
can you take picture of the whole neck from the side?

I have yet to find a Fender with a decent setup in any of the stores I have visited - the relief is always way the h**l too high. A quick tweak on the trussrod should bring these right back into shape. I think Fender assumes that the dealers are gonna do a setup, and when they don't, well, you see the results. I bought my daughter a guitar that took something like 8 turns on the truss rod, since it had no tension on it at all - I think they just started the nut, and called it good. Get the store to do a quick setup, and you should be able to tell if all is well. Most likely, though, the issue is NOT the bridge . . . .

Unless the truss rod is broken (unlikely) or it doesnt have a truss rod (very unlikely), you will be able to adjust it even if it is warped.

It's not necessarily a warp, it could just be that the saddles are too high.

I can't really tell from those pics though, it's pretty hard to tell unless I have the bass in my hands...

Best I can tell from the last picture, the top of the pic is only a couple of frets down from the nut and it's not tapering that much closer to the fretboard at all. E strings looks about .5" off the fret board on the bottom of the pic which is high, but not extremely so. Judging solely from the bad pics.
