Does pickup height affect how tight the strings are?

Hey... was just wondering if pickup height affects how tight the strings are, I find the strings more comfy and loose when the pickups are close. Oh and by the way, how far should the pickup be from the string?

Pickup height has no affect on the string's tightness. Do you rest your thumb on the pickup? Perhaps that causes a shift in your hand position causing you to be more comfortable.

Pickup height is determined pretty much by desired output. All preference.

!

They are completely seperate issues and are not related whatsoever. Read the sticky at the top of this page regarding action and truss rod adjustments for more in depth set-up information.

If you put the pickups right up really close to the strings you might get some magnetic interference on the vibration properties of the strings. People generally try to avoid this effect.
