Question does slightly adjusting action affect intonation?

Sign in to disble this ad
If I raise or lower my action a little, will it change my intonation? I'm considering having my action raised a little bit by a local setup guy. Is he supposed to check and set the intonanation? I just want to make sure I don't mess up the intonation once the height is adjusted again.

Yes, but probably only academically. Think about a right triangle created by the fretboad, an imaginary line representing your action height, and the string itself as the hypotenuse. If you raise action, thereby increasing the length of the second leg, Mr. Pythagoras said that the hypotenuse's length will increase as well. The string will, in effect, become a very little longer, and your intonation will be inaccurate as a result.

However...the scope of the inaccuracy will be so slight that it's probably not worth mentioning.

wow nice explanation hehe. That's kinda what I figured--except I was thinking in simpler terms hehe. OK it looks like it will be fine. I'll just let the pro handle it.
