Double intonation??

So I just read about intonating twice: once at the 12th fret and once at the 19th. Does anyone do this? Do you notice benefits?

It is supposed to improve the high register tones and even up the whole register in terms of timbre. I did it on my 2007 Ric (it wasn't any harder than a normal intonation, just took a bit more time) and it did seem to make a small but pleasant difference in the upper register. The bass is playing at its absolute best as well, but that's not just due to the intonation. I gave it a really thorough setup just before this procedure. Still, this did seem to add some icing to the overall cake.

i work at a music store doing more basic guitar work, and this is how i do it. I find often, even if the 12th fret is good, say, the 24th fret will still be out of tune a few cents. have to get specific and make sure the whole thing is perfect.

I think there is a little bit of loose at the twelve fret,so you try to fine tune either the lower or the higher register with notes and harmonics at the 5 and 7 frets of the string without going off at the 12 fret. There will be some compromises depending on the number of frets and string quality.
