drilling holes for tuner screws

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all, I'm going to be drilling some holes in a new Warmoth neck shortly for the tuners and string tree. Anyone have any tips/advice on how to do it cleanly and so the tuners are all aligned prefectly?

I'm thinking using masking tape before I drill will help protect the finish, but any other advice?

Thanks!

Install the tuners with masking tape, on the back of the headstock, and adjust the positions so that the tuning keys all have the same distance between them when aligned in a row(all keys parallel to the headstock). At the same time be sure they don't all 'lean' one way or the other.
Mark the holes with a fine tip marker or pencil. Remove tuners and create an impression at each mark with a punch or similar pointy object.
Select a drill bit slightly smaller that the screws, roughly the screw body diameter. Wrap a piece of tape around the bit so that the exposed part is slightly shorter that the headstock is thick, so you don't drill all the way through.
