Drilling more holes in Hipshot vintage bridge?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone drill any extra anchor holes in a Hipshot vintage bridge?

Mine sticks up a little towards the pickups due to the ground wire, and I'd like it to be flat with the body, so I'm thinking about drilling a couple of holes towards the corners (not in the track) to tighten it down. As it's made of brass, I'm hoping it will also anchor it better and help it to perform a little more like a high mass bridge too.

The bridge I replaced on my Squier Deluxe Jazz V was a high mass bridge, and the vintage bridge seems to have lost the focus a little. I'm thinking the two more anchors may help give it a little more focus. If not, I may plunk out the cash for a Hipshot brass A style.

you'd be better off just re-positioning that ground wire closer to the mounting screws, or maybe even stuffed into the hole of one of them.

another trick is to use a bit of that stew-mac copper shielding foil, soldered to the groundwire; the foil can sit under the bridge without pushing it up off the body.

I like your idea about using the copper shielding foil, I think I'll try that!

Thanks Walter!
