DropD Tuner

I have to play a lot of songs using DropD tuning. I would like to know your opinions about DropD Tuners (with a lever). Is it good? Once setup right will it stay in tune?

I would like to install it on a Lakland Darryl Jones 4 strings. Will the lever be in the way (near the first fret) when in DropD position?

Thanks for your answers.

The Hipshot D-Tuner extender keys are fantastic. No worries just get one.
Shoot Hipshot an email and they will let you know which one will match your current keys.

Do a search...there are alot of threads on the D-Tuners!
I have been using them since the 80's and the work perfectly fine!

I've had Hipshot Bass Xtender keys since I first heard about them way back in the early '80s or so. There's been one on my Fender Vintage Series '62 P bass for as long as I remember, and I've had that bass since 1983. And all but one of my 4-string basses (I didn't take the Sting out to gigs much, and I'm not gigging now so I haven't invested in one for her) has one on them.

Take your time setting it up, put some powdered graphite in the nut slot whenever you restring, and take your time to tune UP carefully. They'll work great without fail.

I use them and they are good, just make sure they installed properly. I have a couple of my basses with them on it and I shoot them with a little silicone spray periodically and never have a problem....BIGGEST thing is to set it up properly first.

Bought a D-Tuner for my 86 MIM back in the day. It's one that was made from the Schaller tuner. Still works great!

Been using them since '92(?) on pretty much every 4 string I've owned. No issues if set up properly and they probably have one that will drop right into your DJ. I always love watching guitarist struggle to tune down for songs when I just flip a lever. Should be standard equipment for any 4 strings playing rock music, can't tell you how many drummers I play with that appreciate my using one so we don't have to stop for tuning between songs.

I have one too on my J-bass and I love it. Back when I was playing in a rock band, it used to tick me off to no end waiting for the guitarists in my band to tune between songs. I'm sure the audience didn't care for it too much either, since they tuned with harmonics rather than plugging into a tuner. Get a second guitar already.
