Dual jack plate needed - any ideas?

I hope I'm posting this in the right section. Here goes...

I'm currently replacing the pickups and pots on an archtop bass, and converting it to stereo. When finished, the guitar will have two output jacks, and I'm trying to source a chrome or nickel finish jack plate that can take two sockets. This will be stronger and easier to deal with than having the sockets mounted directly on the wood of the guitar body.

The only ready-made double jack plate I can find is the one used on Rickenbackers, and if I order it direct from the UK distributor it'll cost me £20 ($40) - rather a lot of money for a small metal plate with two holes in it!

If there's anybody out there who can help me in any way with this problem, I'd be very glad to hear from you. Any oblong metal plate would do - size isn't critical, and although I'd prefer chrome or nickel finish, even that isn't a deal-breaker. It can even be a blank - I can drill all the necessary holes myself.

Just off the top of my head, why not use a stereo jack in the original location, rather than 2 mono jacks?

My sentiments exactly. You could always split the other end if necessary, but this way you only have one jack, and one cable coming outta yer bass.

+1...when I look at billy sheehan's bass with the two outputs, I always ask myself "why?"

in addition to the stereo jack, I'd put in a push/pull pot that will allow you to run stereo OR mono...

both signals can come out of a stereo jack. simply terminate the cable with a splitter and choose either or both channels.

Espidog, would a neck plate work? Maybe too thick.?

Sorry pkr2, I should have explained in more detail. Spudmaster, you've got it. I want a stereo jack for my normal mode of operation, and a mono jack in case I have to plug in to anyone else's rig - just like I have on my Rick 4003.

I'm afraid a neck plate would be too thick really, but thanks for the idea!

I understand.

if you can find an old wheel cover, or hubcap, it might be around the right thickness and finish. A Dremel tool and a cut off disk would make quick work of cutting it out.
Just a thought. Good luck.

How about an unengraved door nameplate? An engraver might have suitable off the shelf stock.

$4 isn't too dear, but I don't know what the shipping would be to you.

YeeHaaa! Success! Brilliant stuff, pharaohamps. I'll get my friends in Maryland to order it from Grizzly. ...and if by some chance it doesn't work out, the other ideas are well worth a try. Pkr2, mottlefeeder: thanks for the lateral thinking - much appreciated.
