Dual truss rod on my ibanez btb1206E

Sign in to disble this ad
I've read somewhere that I can adjust each side of the neck different (treble and bass side). And also someone said that they work opposite on btb?? So if you want to straighten the neck one rod you have to turn clockwise and other counterclockwise. Is that so? I don't want to experiment and break the neck.

Hi Koki,

Yes, you can adjust relief on both bass and treble side on every bass that has 2 truss rods. It works simple : You measure relief on each side, on the B for the bass side, and on the C for the treble side.
I don't know if they work opposite on the Ibanez BTB, but I don't think so... They should work normal. And if they work normal, there's an easy way how not to forget the direction : The strings bend the neck and the truss rod bends it back. So if you tighten the truss rod (clockwise), you bend it back.
Both truss rods should work the same...
To go for sure, measure the relief, then adjust the truss rod in 1/8 turn steps and then measure the relief again, and you will see in what direction the truss rod goes. You won't brake your neck if you adjust the truss rod in 1/8 turn steps.
Let us know if it worked.

Well, they work normal, not opposite. The problem is.. the treble side truss rod is much harder to turn than truss rod on bass side.. Is that normal?

It can be, because the C string has more tension usually. When adjusting, try to bend the neck with your hands in the direction you are trying to adjust it. This way you'll help it to bend. And always remember, small steps. Let it settle overnight.
